Below is the link to the final campaign finance report for the specific purpose political action committee, The Woodlands V.O.I.C.E. This report covers the period from October 30, 2007 through January 15, 2008. We have previously posted two other reports (30-day report, 8-day report).
Notable contributions for this reporting period including in-kind and other:
- The Woodlands Operating Company (”Developer”) - $30,000+
- Anadarko Petroleum - $10,000
- Chicago Bridge & Iron - $5,000
- Consolidated Communications - $2,500.00
- CenterPoint Energy - $1,000
Total contributions by the Developer for this one election totaled more than $170,000. According to the publicly available reports, the Developer’s contributions dwarfed the next highest contributors, Entergy - $10,000 and Anadarko - $10,000.
Also note, The Eppstein Group, a political consulting company, seemed to be heavily involved in this election.
In 2014 and before, when the Township and all the leaders in The Woodlands start floating reasons why The Woodlands should not/cannot become a city, please remember those (listed below) who really forced the special district upon the residents of The Woodands and also please remember who benefits most from the special district form of government versus an incorporated city (Hint: it is not the residents).
The Developer - Joel Deretchin
Current Local Leaders - Bruce Tough, Claude Hunter, Nelda Blair, Walter Cooke, Lloyd Matthews
Current Leaders in Austin - Senator Tommy Williams, State Representative Rob Eissler
